City lofi: music for night walks, rain and rooftops

Lofi and cities go together because both are about small, warm lights in a big dark space. A good city lofi song has a slow, dusty drum loop, soft electric piano or guitar, and a bass that stays out of the way. It sounds like it is coming from a window across the street.

Most songs in Lofi City were written for evenings. The Central Square and Neon Strip playlists are the closest to the classic "night city" sound: mid-tempo, warm and a little blue. If you want something gentler, the Heights and the Star Observatory playlists are slower and more spacious.

For rain, try the Night Noodles playlist, which was made for storm-and-steam moods; in the game, soft showers and distant thunder drift over the city on their own. For a rooftop, the Sky Greenhouse playlist has a soft, green, open feeling that goes well with a sunset or a quiet tab left open on a second monitor.

Which playlist for what?

Studying or working: Central Square, Quiet Library or Moonlit Cafe. Gaming or coding: Pixel Arcade. Sleep: Lamplight Apartments. Waiting, folding and daydreaming: Suds & Socks. A long mix with everything: the Walk the City Mix.
